Because I Will Fly

I stand on the edge
of the cliff,
looking at the jagged
jaws,
the rocks raw
below.

You survey,
scrutinise,
and then resolve,
to poke,
to prod,
to press.

And it isn’t fear,
exactly,
but a vivid thrill,

because
we both know,
deep in our bones,
that as I tumble
I will

fly.
